SCOUT MOTORS

– Ownership and Brief History

Ownership:

Scout Motors is an American electric vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. While it operates as an independent company, it is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, which acquired the rights to the Scout name following its 2021 purchase of Navistar (the successor to International Harvester).

Brief History:

The Scout nameplate has a storied history, originating with International Harvester in 1961. The original Scout was a pioneer of the modern SUV, known for its rugged, “go-anywhere” capability until production ceased in 1980. Today, Scout Motors is reviving this heritage by developing all-electric, body-on-frame trucks and SUVs designed specifically for the North American market.
