Xpeng G9: Stockholm to Gibraltar Road Trip Pt7 – Spain
2024 Road Trip
Day 7
Lorca to Estepona, 401km.
It took 4 hours, with 1 charging stop & cost 22 euros.
The temperature was 15-20c dry.
Starting from Hotel Riscal (definite recommendation) 200m from the motorway we had 291km to the next Ionity Charger at Casabermeja.
This is always an interesting section with a long climb up into the hills. So we started with 80+km of spare range but very quickly this started to disappear.
After 30 mins the Xpeng G9 Performance was showing “insufficient range“. But no information of how many kilometers or alternative chargers, for any novice EV drivers, this would definitely be a case of “Range Anxiety” .
Confident that the previous range of 380-390km should be more than enough we carried on.
After an hour of “insufficient range” and no alternative charging suggestions, we started descending towards Granada. As expected, the “insufficient range” was replaced by “4km at destination” and gradually increased to “35km at destination“. Arriving at the charger we actually had 89km spare.
As expected the additional uphill consumption was replaced by the downhill recuperation.
Charging just to 70% we soon left Casabermeja heading off on the last 110km to Estepona.
Yes, the road trip is to reach Gibraltar, but that will happen a week or two later.
So now with a total of 3467km, there is just the journey to Gibraltar to complete the road trip – apart from the return journey.
Day 7 Summary:
Spectacular scenery as we travel at high altitude between Puerto Lumbreras and Granada.
Predictable range from the Xpeng G9 Performance removed any “Range Anxiety”
Estepona reached as planned.
