BEVs also have far fewer moving parts than hybrids (which have both an electric motor and a combustion engine). In my humble opinion, any machine that hasmore than one core mechanism, in the long run is likely to have double the number of points of failure, double the costs and end up being “Jack of All Trades and Master of None”. Can you imagine, in a few years time, trying to maintain a 7+ year old Hybrid, getting parts for both the ICE and EV platforms?
Whilst in the early days of EVs when charging infrastructure was not establish, hybrids saved drivers from the planning needed to avoid “range anxiety”. But now with chargers being more common place and 100% EVs having better range and faster charging, 100% EV owners can enjoy the lower running costs and no “Range Anxiety”, so for most situations Hybrids are an unnecessary complication.
