7200km in Xpeng G9 Performance Pt10 – Final Verdict

In October we set off on our Road Trip from Nyköping in Sweden to Estepona in Spain. Now in December we have made the return journey, using a different route in Spain.
After 2 months and 7200km we now have an even better understanding of how this Chinese car(Audi, BMW & Mercedes competitor) performs in Real Life.
Has our Overall Rating or the Top 5 Worst Things and Top 5 Best Things about the Xpeng G9 Performance changed now we have doubled the milage?
The Journey to Spain
This year, charging infrastructure has improved a lot and this time we just used 11 Ionity Chargers and 1 Tesla Charger station. To reduce the charging prices we bought the Ionity Passport which is worth having.
This eliminated any need for re-planning along the way and left us free to take the opportunity to  deviate from our normal route and enjoy visiting Annecy in France and Tossa Del Mar, Spain.
The Journey Back From Spain
Coming back we decided to give Valencia and the East Coast of Spain a wide berth, following the catastrophic rain and probable damage to roads and charging facilities.
Our alternative route was to Madrid, San Sebastian and across southern France, back into Germany at Offenburg.
In Spain and France  there was a lot of wind and rain, probably part of Storn Darren.

The Final Verdict

Yes. The Xpeng G9 Performance continues to exceed our expectations
Such an advanced car from such a young company, is obviously not perfect and many areas need refinement.
However, compared to most of the traditional manufacturers, the overall comfort and capabilities of this car are hard to match.
So, in CARWOW tradition should you;
Forget It,
Consider It,
Shortlist It or
Buy It
You must at least “Shortlist lt” and take it for a test drive, as you will be surprised how good this Chinese car is.
See Below Our Top 5 Worst and Top 5 Best Features of the Xpeng G9 Performance.
Note. VW has invested 700 million Euros in Xpeng to obtain the technology they need to help VW compete in the global EV market.

Top 5 Worst Things

  1. “Lurching Horse” feeling from the Lane Centre Control LCC (X-Pilot), mainly when taking gentle motorway bends at over 105kmph. Often we just switch it off, which is a pity as 90% of the time it is excellent and really useful.
  2. Inconsistent door unlocking when using mobile phone. As there is only 1 physical key, that you need as a backup, you are left unsure about whether or not you can get into the car.
  3. Xpeng Assistant is very limited and has no sense of humor and has a pathetic sounding voice! Just disappears when it cannot help. Come on Xpeng Assistant, you can do better than this!
  4. In-car search for Ionity and maybe  Chargers in the Navigation screen shows nothing. Note: Search in the app works just fine and you can send the details to the car.
  5. No Waypoints can be set in the Navigation system and when you have “Insufficient Range” it does not suggest chargers to use along your route.

Top 5 Best Things

  1. Good Range and super quick charging. At average speeds of 130kmph on the motorway you can expect 380-390km range (15-20c). Charging speeds at Ionity or other rapid chargers are brilliant (15% to 100% in 25-30mins). Also, cruising at 160kmph on the autobahn is really stable and smooth.
  2. Comfortable seats and quiet cabin. Has a quality feel and all touch points feel solid. The heated, ventilated and massage seats are great. Electronic adjustment of the seats and steering wheel also works really well.
  3. Navigation to destinations is accurate and the system gives clear directions. Searching for locations in the App and sending to the car is much easier than tapping the in-car screen. We found the directions given were extremely clear and well timed. Notification of Speed Cameras or Speed Zones is very helpful, but would be even better with an audible warning as well.
  4. Large “Frunk” useful for carrying charging cables, etc. that you need on a long journey, without compromising the baggage space. Easy to access and keeps things dry.
  5. Large “Trunk” has a good square shape that can take all your holiday baggage easily.
