Ownership:

Changan Automobile (officially Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd.) is a state-owned enterprise headquartered in Chongqing, China.

It operates as a subsidiary of China South Industries Group Corporation (CSGC), a state-owned industrial conglomerate directly supervised by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the Chinese government.

 

Brief History:

Founded in 1862 by Li Hongzhang as the Shanghai Bureau of Ordnance, Changan is China’s oldest defense enterprise.

It relocated to Chongqing in 1937 during the Sino-Japanese War and transitioned into automotive manufacturing in 1959 by building China’s first military jeep, the Changjiang 46. In 1984,

Changan entered commercial passenger vehicle production. Through major joint ventures with global automakers like Suzuki, Ford, and Mazda, the company rapidly expanded its engineering capabilities. Today,

Changan stands as one of China’s largest automotive groups and a major force in the global electric vehicle transition through brands such as Deepal and Avatr.
