Xpeng G9: Stockholm to Gibraltar Road Trip Pt1 – Preparation Hiccup!

Preparation for 2024 Road Trip Stockholm to Gibraltar
After  3 months, our impression of the fully electric Xpeng G9 Performance is that it is a great, comfortable, smooth riding car, with good range, fast charging, just made for long motorway journeys.
Join us on our 3 500km journey, where we share the things that were better or worse than we expected about our Xpeng G9 Performance.
Also, we highlight some of the interesting places or situations that we encountered.
Experience from our 2023 Road trips in the Kia EV6 , meant that would always use Ionity Chargers where possible as we have found that (1) they always work, (2) they have high charging speeds and (3) with the monthly subscription are reasonably priced.

First, Why we choose the XPENG G9 Performance?

As described by Top You Tube Reviewer “Thomas” from Autogefuhl, the car has high quality hardware and software that is improving all the time.
After owning a Kia EV6 for 2 years and having many “Test Drives” in the competing makes/ models (inc. Tesla Model Y, Mercedes EQE & Zeekr 001), the Xpeng G9 Performance  came out on Top for these reasons;
  1. Price Performance – medium-large SUV  with leasing costs substantially lower than others.
  2. Range & Charging Speed – 520km range plus up to 335kwh charging speed with high charging curve up to 100%.
  3. Comfort – the ride is so smooth with heated(front & back), ventilated(front) & massage(front & back) seats. Noise level is also very low and sound system excellent.
  4. Driving Aids & Gadgets – (just picking a few)
    1. The Parking Assistant is a definite WOW!, simple to use, quick and accurate, so much so, that in car parks I just press the parking button and sit back and let the car do its thing.
    2. The Lane Centering Control with Auto Lane change and Automatic Cruise Control is good at taking the strain away from long motorway driving . Still needs some refinement but  expect that will come with the OTA (Over The Air) updates.
    3. Head-up Display is not available (same as with Tesla) but personally I don’t miss it.
  5. Entertainment Apps – A great range of apps that can be watched by the passenger including You Tube, Prime Video, TuneIn Radio, etc.
Overall, the Mercedes EQE, Kia EV6, Zeeker 001, VW ID 4 or 5 or 7 or Tesla Model Y could not get anywhere close.

We used the Ionity Chargers Route Planning tool in their App. In the app you can get detailed information of when and where to stop based on your actual vehicles capabilities.
Can totally recommend Ionity and this planning tool. It is just a pity that you cannot send the stopping points directly to the Xpeng App / G9 Navigation system.

Leaves the Trunk free for all the baggage.
