Xpeng G9: Stockholm to Gibraltar Road Trip Pt6 – Spain
2024 Road Trip
Day 6
Tossa De Mar (Spain) to Lorca (midway to Estepona), 695km.
It took 6 hours , with 2 charging stops & cost 51 euros.
The temperature was 17-20c mainly dry.
With 700km to cover we set our route to the 1st charging at Ionity Chargers , Carrer del Llibreters, 8, 43204 Reus, Tarragona, Spain.
Following the Xpeng G9 Performance navigation we landed at exactly the right place, but probably the worst service station on the entire route. We arrived 1130 but both the service station and the restaurant were closed. Fortunately restaurant staff were there and let us use the facilities.
The charger worked just fine but the charging area was full of rubbish, so we were happy that as soon as the car was 100% we were on our way.
The next stop was at Tesla Supercharger, Carrer de Leonardo da Vinci, S/N, 46980 Paterna, Valencia, Spain. This was exactly the opposite situation. Near the motorway and in a Science Park, the restaurant was great and it was pleasant to take a walk in the surrounding area. Charging was fine via the Tesla App.
The next drive would be the longest at 306km. Time to test the theoretical motorway range (@average 130kmph). Arriving in the dark, the Xpeng G9 Performance had 78km range left, therefore no range anxiety.
The hotel was positioned behind the Ionity Chargers at Puerto Lumbreras. Charging the car while we ate in the restaurant, the Xpeng G9 Performance was finished before us!
These chargers are the last Ionity Chargers before the next stop after the Spanish mountain stretch. So, it would be interesting to see how Xpeng G9 Performance copes with the long uphill climb.
Day 6 Summary:
Lots of motorway driving, relying on the Navigation system, which was 100% correct.
1st Ionity charging station was a disappointment as although the chargers worked fine, the service station itself was still closed at 1130am.
We failed to book the planned hotel in Lorca, but the receptionist directed us to another in the town that was perfect. Sometimes you get lucky.
