20250619 – Mercedes EQS Gets Its Identity Back!

After the original EQS lacked some of the glamour, a range of updates have been disclosed for next years model.

Here is a quick summary of the upgrades.

Traditional Front End Restored:

  • Revised front fascia with a new grille design featuring chrome slats, mimicking a traditional Mercedes-Benz grille.
  • Addition of a standing Mercedes-Benz star hood ornament, giving it a more classic S-Class look.
  • Standard AMG Line bumper.

Battery and Range:

  • Larger 118 kWh battery, increasing usable capacity (up from 108.4 kWh).
  • Improved electric range (e.g., EQS 450+ now claims up to 390 miles EPA/802 km WLTP).
  • New regenerative braking software for greater energy recuperation.
  • Standard heat pump to improve efficiency by utilizing waste heat for climate control.
  • Disconnect Unit (DCU) in 4MATIC models to automatically disconnect the front electric motor for increased range during light loads.

Interior Comfort & Features:

  • MBUX Hyperscreen is now standard on all EQS sedan models.
  • Enhanced rear comfort features, including:
    • Adjustable rear seat recline (standard 27-36 degrees, up to 38 degrees with Executive Interior Package).
    • Additional 0.2 inches of foam in the rear seat backrest for improved comfort.
    • Rear comfort pillows with contrast stitching and Nappa leather piping.
    • Rapid heating rear seats, neck and shoulder heating for rear passengers (with Executive Interior Package).
    • Pneumatic adjustment of rear seat depth (with Executive Interior Package).
    • Front passenger seat can fold forward for increased rear legroom (with Executive Interior Package).
  • Chrome accents on the B-pillar climate control vents.
  • Illuminated trim accents integrated into the back of the front seats.

Performance and Driving Dynamics:

  • Increased towing capacity for all-wheel drive EQS models (from 750 kg to 1700 kg).
  • Modified brake force cylinder for better brake pedal feel.
  • Special function to periodically apply brake pads to discs to maintain the brake system (due to less frequent use with strong recuperation).
  • Stronger recuperation in “D-” mode.
  • All-wheel-drive models now offer front-axle uncoupling.

Technology and Safety:

  • Improved Driver Assist semi-self-driving system.
  • Automatic lane changing supported on motorways within certain speed limits.
  • Optional Drive Pilot Level 3 autonomous driving (up to 95 km/h in certain conditions).
  • Smoother and more responsive Zero Layer UI with updated graphics.
  • Hotspot connection for OTA (over-the-air) updates.
  • Route (GPS)-based speed adjustment and intelligent recuperation.
  • More music apps (including Tidal and Amazon Music).

EQS gets some of its core features improved

But it is still Pricey when compared to Asian competitors!
