Founded in 2017 as a pure-EV subsidiary of the state-owned GAC Group (Guangzhou Automobile Group), AION has rapidly become the world’s third-largest EV manufacturer, trailing only BYD and Tesla.
Brief History:
Originally part of the Trumpchi brand, AION became an independent entity in 2020 to focus exclusively on smart, connected BEVs. Known for its dedicated GEP 3.0 platform and “Magazine Battery” safety technology, the company produces popular models like the AION Y and AION V. In 2023, it launched the premium Hyptec sub-brand (formerly Hyper) to target the high-performance luxury market.
