AUDI A2 e-tron: Premium Compact Legend ReBorn NEW
SmartGrandads Overview
The Audi A2 e-tron marks the triumphant return of an iconic nameplate, reinvented as a highly efficient, compact premium electric hatchback.
Designed around groundbreaking aerodynamics, it offers an estimated WLTP range of 483–648 km (300–403 miles).
Expected to start around €38,000 / £33,000 / $42,000, it includes Audi’s 3-year/60,000-mile vehicle warranty alongside an 8-year/100,000-mile battery guarantee.
Body Style and Size Segment
The Audi A2 e-tron is a C-segment (compact) 5-door hatchback featuring a streamlined, aerodynamic silhouette. Measuring approximately 4,280 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,530 mm in height (with a 2,770 mm wheelbase), it pairs compact exterior dimensions with a surprisingly spacious interior.
Platform Architecture
Built on Volkswagen Group’s MEB/MEB Evo 400V architecture, the A2 e-tron offers 58 kWh (LFP) and 79 kWh (NMC) battery configurations. Deliveries achieve an outstanding efficiency of 7.8 km/kWh (4.85 miles/kWh or 12.8 kWh/100 km). With the 140 kW (188 hp) rear-wheel-drive powertrain, it accelerates from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in approximately 8.0 seconds, reaching a maximum WLTP range of up to 648 km (403 miles).
Technical Capabilities
Equipped with Level 2+ ADAS, the A2 e-tron includes predictive adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and active park assist. It supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) bidirectional charging at 3.6 kW to power external electronics, though full V2H and V2G home grid integration remain restricted to larger premium Audi platform models.
Quality & Warranty
The interior prioritizes sustainability using Dinamica microfiber, recycled upholstery, and soft-touch dashboard elements. Storage features a 385-liter rear trunk (expanding to 1,220 liters), though there is no front trunk (frunk). Audi covers the vehicle with a 3-year/60,000-mile warranty and the high-voltage battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km) at 70% capacity.
App Functionality
Managed via the myAudi app, users can remotely check battery status, set climate pre-conditioning, program charge schedules, lock/unlock doors, locate the vehicle, and send navigation destinations directly to the infotainment screen.
3 Pros and 3 Cons
Pros: Exceptional real-world efficiency, ultra-refined and quiet cabin, signature aerodynamic styling.
Cons: No front trunk (frunk) storage, premium pricing over mainstream rivals, modest base DC charging speed on lower battery trims.
SmartGrandads Opinion
The Audi A2 e-tron is the ideal EV for urban commuters, small families, and downsizers who desire premium German build quality combined with class-leading efficiency. Its a pity that it uses only 400v architecture and has only a limited warranty. Its chief competitors are the VW ID.3, Volvo EX30, and BMW i2. Debuting in autumn 2026, it rolls out across Europe and the UK first, followed by select global markets.
